The Great Sphinx

Most main itineraries consists of history filled landmarks like the Great Sphinx. Here are a few "fun facts" about the Sphinx:

It's based on a mythological creature.

It is still unknown who built it.

It was once quite colorful.

It was carved from one enormous piece of stone.

The Luxor

Situated in the NIle Valley, in Upper Egypt, Luxor is an essential part of any Egypt itinerary. It is known as "the world's largest open-air museum". It harbours many of the countries most astonishing monuments and is the starting point of the majority of river cruises.

Valley Of The Kings

The Valley Of The Kings is one of Egypt's most spectacular destinations. Located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor. This small area contains a staggering amount of exquisitely decorated tombs of Egypt's ancient Kings.

Valley of the Queens

Here is where the wives of the Pharaohs were buried in ancient times. It was known then as T-Set-Neferu-, meaning the Place of Beauty.

The gem-studded Tomb of Nefertari - is

considered the most beautiful tomb in Egypt.

The Pyramids

Probably the most "thought about" destination when you mention Egypt.

The Pyramids were built for religious purposes. The Egyptians were one of the first people to believe in the afterlife. They believed that that second self called "The Ka" lived within every human being. When the physical body expired, the ka enjoyed eternal life.

Deep inside the pyramids lays the Pharaoh's burial chamber which would be filled with treasure and items for the Pharaoh to use in the afterlife. The walls were often covered with carvings and paintings. Near the Pharaoh's chamber would be other rooms where family members and servants were buried.
